The Tim Holtz Experience

I wanted to let you know that I have another blog call Crane's Creations in which I post all my paper crafting creations. I am trying to keep my home DIY project and crafting project separated but form time to time I will post them up in both blogs so everyone can see a different part of me. Let me tell you about my experience attending a crafting class with Tim Holtz.

It was my first time attending a craft class and one with Tim Holtz who is a kind of super star in the crafting community. I got there an hour early due to the big response to purchasing the tickets, the store had over 50 people trying to sign up not including the people who where phoning in to sign up.  Long and behold there where already over 50 people there waiting in line to enter the room where the class would take place.

You want to know the funniest part was when the doors opened the ladies ran in to get the best seat possible. I though I was in a race. I've never seen grown women run for anything before. It really did not matter to me because I still got a good seat. The reason being that I was by myself and everyone wanted to find seats with there friends.

Before the class started Tim was signing autographs. He was so down to earth, I would love to take another class with him.

Here is my heart in progress during the class. I learned so many new techniques that I plan to use and show you guys.

Here the finished broken heart. I just love it! I was so giddy after class but exhausted and I don't get up at 6:30 am very often and the class was 3 hrs long and then I spent and hour purchasing some goodies.

This is my new work in progress, I am using a dunny with metallic foil from ranger to cover it and the new techniques I learned in class. It's turning out very nicely and I hope to show it to you all really soon.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Till Later,

Vanity Redo to Boy's Desk

You guys are really going to like this!
I am finally back in my groove in doing projects after taking a month off. I've been working overtime trying to setup and maintain my blog that I needed a small break. I did not know how much I would miss doing projects until I finished my little monsters desk.

I found this little girls vanity by the dumpster about two months ago. We find a lot of goodies every time people are moving. I kept trying to figure out what to do with the vanity, a lot of ideas kept coming to mind but nothing seemed right. Until my little monster kept getting into my desk and my hubby's desk every time we were not around. The best way to use the vanity was to make a cute little desk for my cutie.

The first thing I did was remove the mirror which I will use for something else later. Then I had the hubby cut the legs to were it would be comfortable to be used by my little monster.

After sanding I painted the desk blue and covered the inside of the drawers with a cute fabric with spaceships on them. I used modge podge on the drawers to glue the fabric. I also changed out the hardware to make it more modern.

We place his desk in the middle of my hubby's and my desk so we can watch him play while we are both working own our projects. He loves to play with the drawers and his blocks. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Till later!

7 Questions Wednesday Part 7

1. You are stuck somewhere you really don't want to be, do you- walk home, call a friend, or stick it out?

I would call a friend, I would hate to be alone and my friend a wonderful.   Friends are there when you are the at your worst and you can't get up on your own. They are there to celebrate your accomplished and the happiest times of your life. As a child I did not have any true friends. Until I meet my hubby. He became the best friend and the brought with him wonderful people who I call my closets friends. They took me in and made me feel at home. I want to take this time to thank them and tell them that I love them and I've cherish all the good times.

2. Do you like to PLAY sports?

I use to play softball and do race track as a child.

3. Everyone has that one "different" song that they secretly love- what's yours?

My secret song is a country song, lol. My hubby hate listening to country so I have to do it secretly. Its call When I die young by The Band Perry, that song makes me want to cry every time. It also makes me what to do all the thing I keep postponing.

4. What is one thing you feel you are really good at?

I am really good at organizing and making tags.

5. A dog is running in your direction and barking loudly- what do you do?

If a dog is running in my direction I first see body language of the dog to see if he coming at me aggressively or just excited to see me. If he is aggressive I would just stand there because if I run he is coming at me at full force. The reason I would do this is because I have a cute little puppy that is 57 lbs, haha, and he loves to bark he is excited.

6. Star gazing or cloud watching?

I love to star gaze. My college was located in the middle of nowhere and the sky was clear and full of starts every night. I use to love to lay in the grass and watch the stars.

7. What time of the day do you feel the most productive?

I am most productive at night, during the day my little monster is running around and all my attention is just for him.

Hi! My name is Denise and welcome to Spare Change Chic. I love flea markets, thrift shops and yard sales. I also love DIY, decorating, crafts, antiquing, re-purposing  items, baking, and scrapbooking. I am a follower of Jesus, wife to my sweetheart Christopher and Mom to a zany 14 year old girl named Danielle.
I grew up with a super creative Mom who can design anything and a flea market savvy Dad who can fix anything. So I love projects. Especially projects that don’t cost much. My favorite tools of the trade are: my trusty glue gun, needle and thread, spray paint, and my hammer.  Over the last 2 years I have been slowly re-decorating my home with my fabulous finds. But it’s a work in progress and I hope to share what I’m up to with you.

7 Question Wednesday Part 6 & Goals

We all have goal we wish we could finally achieve to better our lives and I had decided to finally achieve mine. My first goal is to give up soda. After I had my son I needed a caffeine kick to get my day started that was 17 months ago and I was still drinking soda everyday all day. Four days ago I decided to give it up. Why? You ask, I have a weight goal to lose 20 lbs before June and because its horrible for me. I won't stop there for the next couple of week I will be giving up something to make me a better myself as a person.  Can you guess what I will be giving up next?

Let's get started with...

1. What is your favorite App? (even if you don't have a smart phone I'm sure you've played around with someone else's)

My favorite App is Michaels and Joann's. I am able to get my coupon on the spot when I shop, those two are one's I use the most.

2. You have to come up with a book title on the spot- what is it? (don't think- just say!)

Darkness...hey you never asked why.

3. You are given the choice between laughing at everything- always, or never being able to laugh again. Which would you choose?

Laughing at everything. I would hate not to laugh ever in my life.

4. What natural disaster scares you the most? (tornado, hurricane, earthquake, flood, etc)

Natural disaster that scares me the most is earthquakes. You get no warning and it just happens and I leave in a 30 year old building that will just crumble like breadcrumbs.

5. What time do you wake up each day? What time do you go to sleep?

I go to sleep at 12 -1 am every night and wake up at 8 am when my little monster wakes me up. I miss the days I use to sleep till noon.

6. (question courtesy of Katie fromhttp://marriedtoredwhiteandblue.blogspot.com/
) Who's your daddy, and what does he do?

The following question bring anger when asked. My father cheated on my mother and left us for another, what he thought would be a better life. My father is a pity of a man who I hope karma would kick his ass. However, due to the choices he made it made me the person I am today. I am strong and and a better mother for it and its all because of my mother and the values she taught me.  Who is my father you ask, I really don't care.

7. What's the craziest dream you've ever had? (like an actual dream- while you were sleeping)

I had a dream in black, white and blue. It was a wedding. I have never dreamed in those colors it was a little freaky.

Till next time,
